About

I am a graduate of Northwestern College and soon to be a student at Denver Seminary where I will be pursuing a Masters of Divinity. I am also working part-time at First Reformed Church here in Denver where I am trying to lead the church into the next stage of ministry, whatever that may be.

I greatly admire the apostle Paul (some might call this a man-crush) and would love to study his letters more in depth, specifically his eschatology and ecclesiology. I have dabbled in the emerging church/postmodern movement quite a bit but have also been schooled in Reformed theology. My favorite authors include Peter Rollins, Eugene Peterson, Frederick Buechner, Rob Bell and Henri Nouwen. Lately, I have been entranced by the works and theology of Karl Barth. Absolutely fascinating and thoroughly engaging (at least in my opinion).

Some suggest I have no life outside of talking about God and church because I could talk about this stuff all day. But believe it or not, there are a few other interests I have (although they are few and far between). I tend to be a bit masochistic when it comes to physical exercise. I’ve recently taken up bread making and I can throw together a gnarley honey-cheddar bread. I like good coffee, good beer, and good company. Oh yeah, I tend to keep to myself . . . definitely an introvert. I always have time to sit down with a good book, but with the large number of good books out there, sometimes I fret over which to read next. And last but not least, I am EXTREMELY AWKWARD. At least that’s what I’ve been told. Others have called me a whole new breed. I am unsure of what this means. I would love to be enlightened on the meaning of this statement.

  1. You are so ridiculously awkward. How great!

  2. Can we please be scholar buddies? Screw this pastor crap. Let’s work in the same religion department. I’ll be Vonder Bruegge, and you can be Andres. We would compliment each other quite well because studying Paul and his eschatology/ecclesiology appeals to me not at all. You teach that and I will teach how to read Paul from a socio-historical perspective. And I will also completely abandon Paul and focus on the Gospels, because the Gospels are so much better than Paul. They’re about Jesus.
