Sunday Prayers

One spiritual disciplines I have been participating in over the last four weeks has been the Daily Office (which I hope to post about in the near future). There have been a couple prayers from this disciplines that have resonated with me and I wished to share them with you. This first one is from St. Thomas Aquinas:

Grant me, I beseech thee, O merciful God, prudently to study rightly to understand and perfectly fulfill that which is pleasing to thee, to the praise and glory of thy name. Amen.

The second is actually the Compline prayer of the Daily Office. The Compline prayer is the one offered right before retiring for the night.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.
