Book Review: Christ, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper

I have not offered you a book review in a while. This book however, may be of interest to only a few of you, but a book I will recommend to you nonetheless.

Leonard Vander Zee has written a fabulous book on the sacraments and their use in worship. It is entitled, Christ, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper. Vander Zee is a CRC pastor in South Bend, Indiana, and his pastoral sensitivity and awareness shines through in this book. He answers many of the questions posed by people in the pews today and yet, writes in a way that also displays his rootedness in Scripture, his knowledge of church history and the development of the sacraments, and his ecumenical understanding of how other traditions have interpreted the sacraments. Vander Zee represents very well the gift that educated clergy can offer the church.

If you are interested in a largely Reformed but also ecumenical perspective of the sacraments and the importance of their role in worship today in 21st century America, read this book.
